This database provides comprehensive and searchable information about the conservation status, origins, last years of record, variety, designation synonyms, descriptions, and references for more than 3000 ass, buffalo, camelid, cat, cattle, chicken, dog, duck, goat, goldfish, horse, llama, pig, rabbit, sheep, and turkey breeds all over the world.

Unlike naturally occurring biological wildlife species in Nature, the conservation status resulting from breeds created by human beings must come from multiple measures. For these, it is exceedingly difficult to make assertions as to whether there is no feasible habitat or suitable captivity given by breeders or carers because of their various reliance on business, convenience, and interests. Thus, confirmed conditions of extinction are difficult to determine. Moreover, most cases of rediscovery occur when there was an unsuccessful survey of key areas of known or well-managed habitat or insufficient information gained about breeds that were well-cared for areas of captivity in the past. Long time gaps without a record may indicate that the breed was already declining or devastated. Various synonyms for a breed name have also occurred due to lasting indefinite terms, miscommunication, misinterpretation, and misunderstanding regarding ways to represent the presence of a central breed globally or regionally because of language barriers, available media with limited communication development, and unclear resources for the breed varieties.
